Is it ok to get my wife a Dyson as a birthday gift or is it wrong to get her cleaning equipment?

Question by Troy: Is it ok to get my wife a Dyson as a birthday gift or is it wrong to get her cleaning equipment?
My wife has been wanting a Dyson vacuum for a long time now and her birthday is this week. Is it a bad idea to get a woman a vacuum as a gift if it’s something that she’s really been wanting? I’ve always heard that household appliances as a gift for a wife is a big no-no. What do you think ladies?

Would you be mad if your husband got you a Dyson as a b-day gift?`

I would not be mad if it was something that i really wanted.

  2. Irish Dad says:

I think it would be ok as long as you got her jewlery to go with it

  3. Ray D says:

Don’t do it…unless she ask you for one…NEVER I say again NEVER get your wife any cleaning equipment for a birthday or christmas gift….

I would be THRILLED to get a vacuum cleaner for my birthday! Especially if she’s actually told you that she wants one! Heck yeah! Go for it!

  5. curiouscanadian says:

Yeah you bet! Women do not want vacuum cleaners for their birthday gift but you could surprise her with one, only have her ‘real’ birthday gift ready to go too!

  6. tinkle bell says:

I would not be mad but I don’t think you should get her a Dyson for her birthday.you should just get any other day it’s for the house anyways. You should get her something more personal for her birthday…

  7. Wreckless ♥ says:

Yes I would be! Get her something else.

  8. Nance says:

All women are different but if I were you I’d get her something from the heart or something fun.
I’m sure she’d be happy with a Dyson but I’d get her that a little later in the year just as a surprise kinda I love you gift.

I think it is okay, if it is something she really wants, but get her something else, something personal. Yes, like the diamond earrings! But if you can’t afford that, get something else you know she will really like.

No, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

I would love a household appliance for a gift. To make it more romantic you might scatter rose petals over your BR floor, and (after all the fun) tell her you are going to clean up the mess and bring out her new Dyson. A lot of times it isn’t the gift, it’s the presentation that makes it special.

  12. Butterfly Lover says:

Buy her the Dyson if that is what she would like, BUT give her another small surprise birthday gift too.

Giving a woman an appliance as a gift is like giving a mechanic an airhose as a gift.

  13. Steph says:

thats a tough one. usually cleaning products are a big no-no but Dyson’s are really nice and super expensive for a vacuum. Personally, I would love one. Maybe if you are unsure, get her a gift certificate for the exact dollar value and tell her what you wanted to get her but that you weren’t sure about what she would think. That way if she wants something else she has a few hundred to spend. Or, if you are pretty sure she’ll be happy, go for it. Its not like you’re giving her a 50% off Hoover or something.

If she really wants that vacuum cleaner as her birthday, then get it for her birthday, but also get her something nice and personal too. If all I got was a vacuum cleaner I would be really mad, especially if I did not ask for one.

  15. smiley says:

Go for it. If she wants one you should get it for her. Maybe get some chocolates, or something else small but nice to go along with this thoughtful gift. And a nice card, you can even explain your buying the dyson in the card. Oh and if you decide not to get it for her I’ll take one!!!!!!!! Just kidding Good luck

  16. mamamoon says:

Don’t do it unless you know for fact that your wife would be OK with it. Not many women want domestic gifts.

  17. Really now says:

You can get her the vacuum, but just make sure you also get her something that is a little more indulgent and personal. It doesn’t have to be anything big, just something more personal than the appliance. I am a neat freak, so I would love the Dyson, but many women would be offended. Flowers or dinner out would be nice. This way you have all your bases covered! Your wife is lucky to have such a thoughtful husband!
